Most people think if you's a hick then you won't amount to much. But this here area will prove all those people wrong by celebratin' some of America's finest movie stars, sports heroes and even those folks workin' for the government. I'd like to use this Hall of Fame to personally honor the heroes who makes us proud to be Hicks.

Jim Varney
Not since the days of Jed Clampett or the Duke boys has one fella made us laugh with all his Southern charm. Jim Varney, also known as a fella named Ernest P. Worrell, is the story of a man who set out to make the whole world laugh.

Born June 15th, 1949 in Lexington, Kentucky, Varney started out his acting career when he was a young buck of only fifteen. Back then he was workin' for a local children's theater where he played old man Scrooge for A Christmas Carol. By seventeen that young buck was already doin' stand-up comedy fer folks at night clubs and coffeehouses. But Varney was ready for somethin' bigger, so he moved to a place where all the would-be movie stars go: Nashville, Tennessee. There in Nashville is where Varney would get his first shot of superstardom. One of them slick advertising agents named John R. Cherry III met Varney and asked the young buck to act in some commercials for him. These commercials is where Varney and Cherry made up the famous Ernest P. Worrell character. Together those two made some of the funniest commercials you folks'll ever see. Now Ernest was a big hit with all the TV watchers because he would always say "Know what I mean Vern?" an folks would be laughin' fer days on end, but not until 1987 did Ernest make his first movie Ernest Goes to Camp. This here movie is one of the funniest films to hit the drive-in and was the biggest movie to ever come out of Nashville.

After that Mr. Varney was a regular at all the big wig Hollywood parties. Varney kept on making Ernest movies and got to see and do many things like go to Africa, save Christmas and even join the army. In 1993 when Hollywood decided to make a movie 'bout the Beverly Hillbillies, Varney played the role of Southern legend ,and one of my personal heroes, Jed Clampett. Varney also was a voice actor and did movies and shows like Toy Story and The Simpsons. In February of 2000, Jim Varney passed away from lung cancer, may he rest in peace. But he lives on in all the movies and characters he created over the years and will always make people laugh, know what I mean Vern?
